Cecile Richards became president of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest provider of reproductive health services, in 2006. A graduate of Brown University, Richards founded the Texas Freedom Network--a liberal grassroots organization dedicated to countering the Christian Right--in 1996. She went on to serve as deputy chief of staff for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and in 2004 she founded America Votes, a coalition of organizations that work to increase voter registration, education and participation nationwide. In 2011 Richards was named to TIME Magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people. She lives in New York with her husband and three children.
